Green Rating System (GRS) UoPÂ
What is GRS UoP?
Green Rating System (GRS) is a voluntary self-guided initiative that promotes the best practices of environmental sustainability at department/unit/division/center/library or hall of residence levels of the University. Your department/unit/division/center/library or hall of residency will be evaluated based on eight sustainability categories and number of criteria under each category.Â

What are the goals of GRS UoP?
Support and recognize departments, units, divisions, centers, libraries and halls of residence that are taking steps towards reducing their environmental footprint.
Support University of Peradeniya to achieve its sustainability development goals.
Make staff and students engaged in the sustainability effort of the University.
Conserve electricity and water, minimize resource consumption, and reduce the cost.
Develop a dialogue on environmental sustainability among the staff and students.
Who can participate?
Any department, unit, division, center, library or  hall of residence of University of Peradeniya can participate in this program.Â
What are the benefits of becoming certified?
Your unit can conserve resources and reduce cost.
Create a healthy work environment for staff and students.
Play an active role in the quest of University of Peradeniya for sustainability.Â
Will be able to display GRS UoP logo on your website and letterhead, to showcase your commitment to sustainability.
You will receive recognition for your sustainability efforts, accomplishments and innovations.
How can we participate?
Registration
Get approval from the head of the department/unit/division or director/librarian/warden.
Select a representative for GRS UoP program (preferably an EMC member or CES Green -Ambassador)
Complete and submit the GRS UoP application form.
Training
GRS UoP representative attends a training session to familiarize with the sustainability practices.
GRS UoP representative share his/her training with the other members of the department/unit/division/center/library or  hall of residence.
Implementation
Implement sustainable practices to improve the environmental sustainability of the department/unit/division/center/library or hall of residence.
Follow the implemented sustainable practices at least for a period of one month.
Application
Complete the GRS UoP checklist
Submit your completed check list to CES through the head of the department/unit/division or director/librarian/warden.
Verification
GRS UoP evaluators will visit your department/unit/division/center/library or hall of residence to verify your sustainability practices.Â
GRS UoP evaluators will provide you with feedback and recommendations for adopting new sustainability practices to improve your score.Â
Certification
Based on your score, you will receive Green/Bronze/Silver/Gold or Platinum certification level .Â
Renewal of the certificate
The GRS UoP certification is valid for one year.
After a period of one year, you can renew your certificate at the same level or submit new checklist to improve your score.Â
