Sustainable consumption and production, biodiversity conservation, and chemical and waste management are recognized as major environmental dimensions in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development adopted by the UN. Despite this, environmental issues at different magnitudes are increasingly disrupting the normal functioning of ecosystems, challenging the well-being of people. In order to address the pressing environmental issues more scientifically, training and research in environmental science related disciplines and professional advocacy to address the problems are essential. Thus, the Centre for Environmental Sustainability (CES) of the University of Peradeniya has been providing training, research, and consultancy services over the last few decades with the intention of supporting and addressing to mitigate a wide range of environmental issues in a sustainable manner.   

The CES is thus keen and strives to become an internationally recognized center of excellence for training, research and consultancy in the field of environmental science, and for environmental management, in the region, and to join hands in its efforts to ensure a safer and healthy environment.
