Dr. G.A. Nalin Suranjith

Director

Dr. Nalin Suranjith Gama Arachchige, Acting Director of the Center for Environmental Sustainability at the University of Peradeniya, is a distinguished seed biologist and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Botany. Holding a Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky, his expertise encompasses seed biology, plant ecology, and environmental sustainability. Dr.Suranjith has made significant contributions to research, conservation strategies, and sustainable landscape management. As Acting Director, he leads initiatives focused on biodiversity conservation, sustainability education, and environmental awareness. Under his leadership, the Center develops impactful solutions to address biodiversity threats while promoting eco-friendly policies and fostering public engagement.

Ms. Kamani Sylva

Deputy Director, Research and Environmental Management

Ms. Kamani Sylva is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. She holds a BSc from the University of Peradeniya and three master's degrees: in Geotechnical Engineering (Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok), Business Administration (Postgraduate Institute of Management, Sri Lanka), and Energy Systems (University of Gävle, Sweden).
She brings valuable field experience to her academic role, having worked both as an engineer in the industry and as a scientist at the National Building Research Organization (NBRO), Sri Lanka.
Ms. Sylva served as the Head of the Department of Engineering Management, Faculty of Engineering, from November 2018 to October 2024. Since 2016, she has been an Accredited Professional of the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka. Her research interests include sustainable development, the circular economy, and social resilience. In her current role as Deputy Director of Research and Environmental Management at the Centre for Environmental Sustainability (CES), she plays a key role in promoting and sharing research initiatives focused on environmental sustainability at the University of Peradeniya. She is committed to fostering collaboration among university staff and industry professionals to advance research for a sustainable future.
