Course Content:

The course intends to provide hands on experience on basic ecological techniques of sampling fauna and flora, and will include the following topics:

• Point counts, line transect methods for assessing bird diversity.
• Line transect method, camera trapping and passive acoustic monitoring used in assessing abundance and diversity of mammals.
• Vegetation sampling using quadrats and transects, density, frequency and cover of species collection and preservation for identification, measuring trees; collecting supportive data (e.g. Hemispherical photography).
• Sampling invertebrates.
